1 Corinthians 9:24-26 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;
It’s an interesting fact that anyone that competes in sports must exercise self-control.
Yet we tend to think that because we are under grace that we can do almost anything. We give little to no thought for what we should or should not do. We need to live with intentionality, just as if we were preparing for the race of our lives. We need to give in all we have, running like it is our life that is on the line. Yet the only way for us to do that is if we prepare in such a way that we deny ourselves, exercising self-control in all our life.
- What areas of your life are you not all in?
- What areas do you need to deny yourself?
- What areas of your life to hold onto not allowing God to give you directional corrections because you do not want to deny yourself?
