Sting of Anxiety
Have you ever had a thought quickly jump in and take over your thoughts and move you from your place of peace?
Today I got stung by a hornet while I was working.
It was not a lasting experience, but it was something that took my attention away from what I was doing. I said a quick prayer that I would not have a reaction to the sting and moved on to my work. Why am I telling you about this in an article about anxiety?
It was not a lasting experience, but it was something that took my attention away from what I was doing. I said a quick prayer that I would not have a reaction to the sting and moved on to my work. Why am I telling you about this in an article about anxiety?
Let me tell you the story and you will see how it relates.
I was working on some equipment on a rooftop for a business and as I reached in to access a sensor, I suddenly felt a stabbing sensation in my arm. I quickly reached back and brushed my arm and found a hornet as it fell to the ground. I killed it…I did not want to get stung again.
But as I thought about this experience, I realized that in life anxiety is the same.
While we are working on something and totally distracted in the affairs of life, suddenly, out of nowhere, we get stung. We did not see it, we did not expect it, but none the less we got stung by the thought or idea that created anxiety inside our mind.
But just like the sting, it affects more than just our thinking.
There is a physical manifestation of the wound when we do not immediately deal with it. We must resist the spreading of the poison throughout our system. We must not allow the on-slot to become a full-on attack. This is because when anxiety hits it is more like a computer virus, it replicates throughout our system. Effecting our whole self. This is not just an emotional reaction, but it will eventually start affecting your physical body if you do not deal with it upfront.
We see in the bible that we are told not to allow ourselves to be anxious about anything…
Philippians 4:6 (The Passion Translation)
6 Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life,
What do we do when that sting comes as a sneak attack?
Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians:
2 Corinthians 10:5 (The Passion Translation)
5 We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and breakthrough every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.
We must take authority over every thought that comes against us! We must take a stand! This is not something that we can wait on, instead, we must move at the moment that it happens. If we do not, just like the computer virus that is left unremoved, it will self-replicate and spread into the rest of the system. Left untreated it will cause a problem bigger than you can handle on your own.
I really hope that this post helped you today!
