Sold Out Part 1
Have you ever asked yourself, Am I truly sold out?
Many of us in today’s word claim to be sold out Christians. We say that we will do anything for the kingdom, but would we? We say that He is the most important thing in our life, is He really? How many of us when in the mix of life, and asked by the Holy Spirit to share the gospel? Typically, we say not now/not here.
How can we say we are sold out, then? Say we're in the line at the grocery store, and there is someone in front of us and someone behind; and when the Spirit of God says "See the person there in front of you? Tell them about My Son," we say "Not now God, not here." How about when we are at the gym playing basketball and see someone walk in and we are prompted to share Jesus or minster an encoraging word, yet we refuse the feeling and neglect it.
Are we so worried about what others think, that we have set ourselves up above God?
Have we placed such importance on our comfort that we have drowned out the voice of the Holy One?
Steven, a deacon whom we see in the book of Acts, stands up and boldly proclaims Christ before the teachers of his time. These men were knowledgeable regarding the scriptures. Experts in the law. Yet he took up a discourse proclaiming Jesus as the risen messiah, even at the chance of ridicule or humiliation. He used the same word that they were experts in to present the gospel of Jesus and make his case. It cost him his life.
Acts 7:54-58New King James Version (NKJV)
54 When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. 55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, 56 and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”
57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; 58 and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
How is it that we think that we are sold out when we are so worried about what our neighbor will think if we mention Jesus?
Why do we think we are sold out when we cannot even say the name of Jesus in public? We have for so long, lied to ourselves trying to feel good about our lifestyle of mediocrity. We must come to a place of true repentance, laying everything else aside, putting God in first place.
Removing the idol of self, paying attention and placing in submission our own desires, so that we can follow Him.
I am excited to continue this teaching in parts 2 and 3 of Sold Out. If this has touched you then please contact me and let me know. We will continue this study for several more posts, till then.
